Bassenthwaite Primary school
Bassenthwaite Primary School has always been an important part of the village and surrounding area. Originally built in 1874 for 120 boarders the school included a reading room and library. Originally designated as a Church School, it was never endowed and is now a County Primary School funded by Cumbria LEA. Over the years the number of children living in the Parish has reduced greatly and as of September 2014 there were 24 students on the roll with two full time teachers and two part time teaching assistants.
Build in traditional Victorian style the school has now been updated to meet with the needs of a modern curriculum with the old Victorian schoolroom divided to provide separate classrooms for the two Key Stages. Each area is well equipped for art, craft and technology. |

A
brand new conservatory style classroom was added in more recent years and
now provides a fantastic learning space for the new Ducklings Nursery which opened in September 2014.
The school building is set within a spacious playground creatively marked for outdoor sporting and curriculum activities. There is a fixed external play system to encourage challenge and adventure. The outdoor environment provides stimulus for imaginative and role play. An outdoor classroom has been added which is benefiting the children's outdoor curriculum.
